Orion Optics UK CT Carbon Newtonian
The entire series of CT Carbon Newtonians benefits from common elements so you only have to choose your preferred aperture. Each model sports a superb carbon tube, 1/10PV Wavefront Optics and HiLux coatings. 4 Vane Steel Spider, 9 Point CNC Mirror Cell, OC1 Focuser with 10:1 slo-mo reduction.
Carbon tube: The CT series has a Sandwich construction Carbon Fibre tube with a very pleasing gloss external surface and matt black internal tube surface. Offering the ultimate physical stability with virtually zero expansion for focal plane maintenance.
Interferogram: Each CT telescope is being supplied with its exact optical specification, you will be presented with a ZYGO report with analyses of the mirror’s paramaters in detail.
The rear mirror support is a 9 Point Flotation CNC machined Mirror Cell. This maintains positional acuracy and hence perfect image quality. Also at the rear, a fan cooling system will minimize cooldown times and help maintain image quality during viewing. Fans can be left in continuous operation.
Rings: Both sides of the rings are flat with inside M6 threats. This enables the attachment of numerous accessories such as dovetail plates and guiding scopes.
- Sandwich Carbon tube for zero expansion
- CNC manufactured rings
- 97% HILUX coating for brighter images
- 2″ Crayford focuser with 1:10 dual speed
- Backside of the scope is closed and upgraded with 3 fans
- 4-arms low-profile spider
- Primary mirror with 1/10 Lambda with Zygo Interferogram
- Dovetailplate and mount are not included
Carbon Fibre Tube
This apochromat is well suitable to visual observing but was, in fact, developed especially for astrophotography. Use the advantages of a carbon fibre tube: it is particularly light and so even perfectly suitable for using on smaller mounts. The tube also offers a very high inherent stability and only minimal thermal expansion. These advantages are particularly useful for astrophotography, as the focus remains stable for the whole night. The dew shield is also carbon fibre and can be extended easily. In addition, the tube is lined with black felt.
Mirror Cells: The best optics in the world can be literally ruined unless they are supported correctly in a telescope’s body. Badly designed mirror supports (cells) are more than capable of turning the image from a 1/10PV wavefront mirror into worse than a whole wavelength of inaccuracy. This telescopes comes with a computer optimised, anodised aluminium surface cell with built in cooling fan (12V DC).
It has a 9 point, nylon66 tipped suspension system which spreads the ‘load’ of the mirror as evenly as possible over those 9 points at the back of the mirror.
Focuser ACU-2S: This is a high quality 2” (50.8mm) Crayford focuser. The actual mechanism is ultra smooth, both in its normal focusing speed and, in its lower geared 10:1 ratio micro adjustment for precise focusing with an eyepiece or camera. For photography it is ideal for small to medium sized cameras, including DSLR and medium format CCD chips. Looking the knurled knob will tighten the draw tube in the chosen position and no movement is produced to offer, sharp, flawless images.
Standard or Long? The telescopes in this series have a short focal length which, with the addition of a camera adaptor and camera, can give you some spectacular photographic performance, primarily on Deep Sky objects. The L-Version has a higher focal length. It can provide you with stunning visual images at higher magnifications and be extremely useful in photographing the planets and the Moon.
It is not only important which telescope you buy, but also where you buy it.
